Sigma 18mm – 250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Good walk around lens
Pros: Lightweight, Good range, Strong Construction, Fast / accurate auto-focus
Cons: Poor in Low Light, Sticky Zoom
Best Uses: Landscape/Scenery, Indoors/Low Light
Describe Yourself: Photo Enthusiast
Was this a gift?: No
This is a good alternative to the Nikon 18-200 VR or Tamron 18-270 VC. Better range than the Nikon, much faster zoom than the Tamron. Needs to be stepped down to see how sharp it can really be, but overall a solid performer and a great price.

1000 birds drop dead in Arkansas
by Scott on Jan.04, 2011, under News
Wildlife authorities in Beebe, Arkansas are trying to find the cause of death for more than 1,000 blackbirds which fell from the sky over a one-mile area over the town late at night. No other dead birds were found nearby.
An ornithologist with the state Game and Fish Commission said the birds showed signs of physical trauma, speculating that high-altitude hail or a lightning strike could have killed the birds. Another theory blames New Year´s Eve fireworks.
The sound of the fireworks could have caused the birds to die from stress, according to the commission. 65 dead birds will be tested at two laboratories. The ornithologist said similar, inexplicable events have happened elsewhere.

Teacher dies in fall from Palmer House stairwell
by Scott on Nov.01, 2010, under News
Teacher dies in fall from Palmer House stairwell – Chicago Breaking News.
Megan Duskey was looking forward to a Halloween night out in Chicago with some of her best friends.
The Chicago schoolteacher and a group of girlfriends she had known most of her life had scored tickets to a sold-out Haunted Hotel Ball at the Palmer House Hilton, and Duskey was going as glamorous superhero Silk Spectre from the movie “Watchmen.”
Duskey, 23, and her friends were there half an hour Saturday night when she playfully attempted to slide down a banister rail and fell four stories to her death, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
“We had just gotten there,” said Ellie Pessetto, a friend of Duskey’s from childhood who had stepped away from the stairwell moments before Duskey fell. When Pessetto returned to the stairs, she saw two of her friends crumpled to the floor, in hysterics.
“I couldn’t even understand what they were saying,” Pessetto said. “Then someone said (Megan) fell.”
A cousin of Duskey’s had raced down the stairs and was holding Duskey’s body when firefighters arrived, Pessetto said. Later, they noticed a mark on the cousin’s arm where firefighters had had to pull her away from Duskey.
“(The cousin) just said, ‘She’s gone.’ She knew she was gone,” Pessetto said.
The medical examiner said Duskey died instantly of head trauma. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, police said.
The fall took place at 10:30 p.m., bringing an end to the ball just hours after it had begun. The party, which had been set to run until 2 a.m. with more than 2,000 guests, included reserved tables that cost more than $1,000 apiece. Duskey and her group, which included a cousin, a college roommate and other close friends, got tickets from a friend whose company had paid for a table, Pessetto said.
Man sentenced in cop-owned doughnut shop theft
by Scott on Oct.28, 2010, under humor, News
A 24-year-old Coleman man accused of stealing money from a police-owned doughnut shop in mid-Michigan has been sentenced to spend the next five weekends in jail.
WNEM-TV says Brent Kenyon was sentenced Wednesday to 10 days in jail and will serve two days at a time. Kenyon pleaded guilty in September to a misdemeanor charge of larceny of less than $1,000.
Police said Kenyon was a nightshift employee at the Cops and Doughnuts Bakery in Clare, about 130 miles northwest of Detroit, when the theft happened. They say surveillance cameras caught him breaking into the office area overnight and stealing cash.
Kenyon also was ordered pay back nearly $800 in restitution to the shop.

Baby Injured During At-Home Circumcision
by Scott on Oct.26, 2010, under News
PORTLAND, Ore. — A 3-month-old child was taken to a hospital in critical condition after his mother attempted to circumcise him at home, police said.
Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson said officers arrived at a home at Northeast 127th Avenue and Burnside Street at about 2 a.m. Sunday to assist medics after a call of an injured child.
Police said they learned the mother had attempted to perform a medical procedure on the infant.
The child was taken to a hospital, Simpson said, and is expected to survive.
Detectives from the police bureau’s child abuse team and state officials are investigating.
No arrests have been made at this point, Simpson said.

Woman smashes into salon, then stays to get her hair cut – WMBFNews.com | Myrtle Beach/Florence, SC | News, Weather, Sports
by Scott on Apr.07, 2010, under humor, News
(NBC) – A Grand Rapids, MI, hair salon had a hair-raising Saturday afternoon.
According to police, 82-year-old Marion Zock stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake as she was attempting to park outside of the shop.
“It didn’t take any length of time at all, and all I kept thinking was, ‘Where’s the brake?’ I thought the store would stop me but it didn’t,” Zock said.
Two people were injured, an employee who returned to work after being treated, and a young girl who suffered a bruised arm.
Zock, who said she hasn’t had a ticket in 60 years, is a regular customer at the salon and stayed to go through with her appointment.
“I sat there with my face in my hands because I was so embarrassed,” Zock said.
Another vehicle crashed through the same storefront about eight years ago.
“When you’re behind the wheel of a car, you pay attention and you’re focused on your driving task,” Kent County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Kevin Kelley said.
“Quite often in cases like this, it is the result of inattentiveness,” said Kelley.
Zock had cataract surgery not too long ago, but said her vision is fine and not at issue. She will likely receive a ticket for reckless driving, a four-point citation.
Zock’s family still has confidence in her driving skills and isn’t encouraging her to give up her license, she said.
Classic Hair Design remained open as the car was removed.
